Conversion to 50 self-contained apartments

Camden Town, London

On 27th January 2012, TTN Building Contractors commenced reinstatement works to 261 Camden Road, formerly known as Heywood House, with the objective to create 50 self-contained studio apartments for medium–term rental, ideally suited for students.

A Victorian five-storey building, Heywood House was severely damaged by fire and consequently exposed to the elements since 2007/8.

The 3rd floor and roof had to be demolished and rebuilt in line with current building regulations. A timber survey of the building revealed 98% wood rot to all windows, door lintels,  joists and wall plates, all of which were replaced.

All walls were stripped back to brickwork, re-pointed then rendered with additional thermal upgrades, indeed the only elements which remained of the original building were the four outer walls.

This project was completed on 27th September 2012.
  • 2 months scaffold , demolition and strip out
  • 6 month build.
